Barnesville VFW Auxiliary Post 4628 Donates $400 to Hospice

The Barnesville VFW Auxiliary Post 4628 held a Valentine’s Day supper in February with half of the proceeds donated to Hospice of the Red River Valley. On March 9, VFW members presented a check for $400 to Curt Seter, development officer with Hospice.

Community Soup and Sandwich Feed to be Held April 1 in Valley City

The Valley City State University Pre-Professional Club will host a Community Soup and Sandwich Feed on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the VFW located at 138 E. Main St. in Valley City.

 

The Community Soup and Sandwich Feed is open to the public. Tickets cost $7 per person; children under five eat for free. Tickets may be purchased in advance by contacting Hilde van Gijssel at (701) 845-7337 or hilde.vangijssel@vcsu.edu. Tickets may also be purchased at the event.

 

Proceeds from the Feed will be used to advance the club, and a portion will be donated to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

The Pre-Professional Club at Valley City State University is for students interested in careers in the medical field, graduate school and law. The club helps students with the application process, provides volunteer opportunities, job shadowing and job observations hours, study sessions and mock admission tests and anything else related to the admission process of professional programs.

Naytahwaush Nightriders Ride for Hospice of the Red River Valley Raises $6,068

The Naytahwaush Nightriders Sno-Club announced this year’s Ride for Hospice, held in February, raised $6,068 for Hospice of the Red River Valley.

In 11 years of the ride, the Nightriders have raised $74,752 to help provide hospice care to patients and families in Naytahwaush and surrounding areas.

Tom McArthur and Steve Paul from the Nightriders presented a check to Deb Gemar, Hospice of the Red River Valley director of community relations, at their annual Snodeo held March 7-8.

“The care and enthusiasm poured into this event, year after year, is amazing! Proceeds from this event support compassionate end-of-life care and help ensure everyone who needs our services will receive them, regardless of their ability to pay,” Gemar said.

March Lunch and Learn Announced: Bridging of Hospice Services for Children from Hospital to Home

LunchLearnHospice of the Red River Valley invites health care professionals to its March Lunch and Learn on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, from noon-1 p.m.

Katherine Barchenger, children’s hospice administrator, with North Dakota Department of Human Services, will present, “Bridging of Hospice Services for Children from Hospital to Home.”

In this session, participants will learn about the children’s hospice program and the available services within the program. Participants will also learn information about how to assist families by enrolling in the program.

Hospice of the Red River Valley is an approved provider of continuing education for social workers in North Dakota. This program has been approved for 1 contact hour for social workers.

For your convenience, Lunch and Learns will be held in five Hospice of the Red River Valley Office locations:

    • Detroit Lakes* – 1111 Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
    • Grand Forks* – 2860 10th Avenue N., Ste. 400, Grand Forks, N.D.
    • Lisbon* – 415 Main Street, Lisbon, N.D.
    • Valley City* – 1240 W. Main Street, Valley City, N.D.

 

*The Detroit Lakes, Grand Forks, Lisbon and Valley City office locations will be connected via videoconference to the Fargo office where the live presentation will take place.

This event is free and open to all health care professionals, but pre-registration is required because space is limited. Participants may bring their own lunches; coffee and water will be provided.
