David and Emily Gess
Our wedding day in October, 2008, will always hold special memories for us...memories of the day itself and memories of friends and family who came to celebrate. On that day when so much was given to us, we started a tradition of giving back in honor of our grandfathers who had both been served by Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Instead of investing in party favors for our guests, we placed table tents on each table explaining our decision to make a donation to Hospice. So many family members and friends commented that this was a very different and unique way to honor those unable to be at the wedding. It meant so much more to them and to us than a piece of chocolate or a forgettable party favor. Instead, we wanted to give back to an organization that has touched our lives.
Every year, we intend to make a donation on our wedding anniversary in memory of our grandfathers. Some day when we have children, we want them to realize that giving to charity is a normal part of our lives. We couldn’t imagine our grandpas NOT being at our wedding, and yet their legacies will live on as we tell and retell this precious tradition to our children.
This Memorial Day, we invite you to join us in giving in memory of a loved one. It’s so easy to do, and your donation will ensure that grandparents, parents, friends and loved ones in our community receive the best possible end-of-life care available. Please consider sending in your contribution today.
