Medical training is not required to be a Hospice volunteer. All volunteers will receive training and must follow the volunteer job description, regardless of prior experience and education.
Patient Care and Office Volunteers
As a Medicare-certified hospice program, our volunteers must complete training outlined by Medicare, which takes two to three hours. They will learn what services are provided and the expectations of our volunteers.
All volunteers are required to complete one mandatory in-service each year that covers important infection control information, as well as a review of confidentiality standards and safety precautions.
Special Event Volunteers
Special event volunteers do not need formal training but will be given directions related to the event or task for which they are helping.
Heirlooms volunteers receive training at the Heirlooms store that includes an overview of the operation and more detailed information about their roles.
