Public education
Would your group like to learn more about our Hospice? We present to churches, service clubs, community organizations, schools, or any interested group. Topics include:
- Overview of Hospice care
- How to help a friend who is grieving
- Understanding grief and loss
- Helping children and teens cope with grief and loss
- Dealing with the holidays and special events when grieving
- Grief in the workplace
- Expressing our grief through creative methods
- Anticipatory grief
- Sudden vs. anticipated loss
Presentations can be adapted to any size group and any time frame. There may be a charge for some presentations.
In addition, our annual Journeying Home conference in the fall, workshops and seminars provide thousands of participants the opportunity to hear regional and national experts address topics on end-of-life care and grief support. Check our calendar for offerings.
Professional education for facility staff
In all our contracted facilities, Hospice encourages staff to take advantage of our continuing education courses on end-of-life issues. Review the topics below and contact us to set up an in-service for your facility. The nursing contact hours available are listed below. In addition, several of the presentations also qualify for social worker and ministerial continuing eduction credit. Ask about availble CE's when scheduling your presentation.
Management of Pain
This program will outline the management of pain through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological palliative interventions. (1 contact hour - nursing)
Non-Pain Symptom Management
This program will outline the management of symptoms other than pain (breathlessness, anxiety, N/V, anorexia, insomnia, constipation, diarrhea) through palliative interventions. (1 contact hour - nursing)
What Does " Hospice Appropriate" Look Like?
This program will cover the assessment process needed to recognize Hospice appropriate residents and the Medicare/Medicaid Hospice Benefit. (1 contact hour - nursing)
Partners in Care: Hospice in the Long-Term Care Facility
This program will outline the coordination of care between Hospice and the LTC facility and address the benefits of collaboration for patients and families. (1 contact hour - nursing)
Partners in Care: Hospice in the Assisted Living Facility
This program will outline the coordination of care between Hospice and the ALF and address the benefits of collaboration for patients and families. (1 contact hour - nursing)
Life's Journey: Nearing the End
This program will outline what to expect in the final days of life and how the LTC facility and Hospice can collaborate to support residents and families through this time. (1 contact hour - nursing)
Understanding Difficult Decisions and Assisting With Difficult Discussions
This program will outline several of the difficult medical decisions that are encountered, basic advanced care planning and the discussions that occur with these topics. (1 contact hour - nursing)
Focus on Comfort: Concentrated Care
This program will cover the basics of concentrated care. (.5 contact hour - nursing)
Bereavement Topics
Topics include: Compassion Fatigue, Anticipatory Grief, Grief in the Workplace, Professional Care Giver Grief, Healthy Boundaries and How to Help Someone Who Is Grieving. Other topics may be available as well as CEUs for social workers.
