The annual Sweet N’ Stickey in Dickey Rib Cook-off was held on Saturday, July 13 in Dickey, N.D. In its 10th year, the event showcased 38 cooks from multiple states, all hoping to win a Sweet N’ Stickey in Dickey trophy and generate donations for Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Four hundred people enjoyed 130 racks of ribs and numerous donated salads and desserts at the event. The event raised $10,000 for Hospice of the Red River Valley in memory of loved ones who have been cared for by the organization.

Twelve judges sampled and scored the entries to determine the Judge’s Choice award. The Judges’ Choice winners were: Stacey Pesek of Dickey, N.D. (first place), Herb Carpenter of Bismarck, N.D. (second place) and Greg Peterson of Fargo, N.D. (third place).

The People’s Choice winners were: Rudi Van Heerden of South Africa (first place), Brent Carpenter of Jamestown, N.D. (second place) and Kenny Knudsen of Marion, N.D. (third place)

A quilt featuring all the past years’ event T-shirts was auctioned off at the event, garnering $2,000 in extra funds for Hospice of the Red River Valley.

The event also featured a live auction to auction off a handmade “decade” quilt featuring Sweet N’ Stickey in Dickey event T-shirts from the past 10 years. The quilt brought in $2,000 for Hospice of the Red River Valley. Music from the Long Branch Boys closed the night out.
