Why do you volunteer with Hospice of the Red River Valley? As a student at NDSU, I often find myself getting stressed out and worrying about school. When I volunteer each week, it gives me time to focus on something else. This is much needed as a student. Even though I have a small role of entering data from other volunteers, I know that helping in this way is helping someone else. It is interesting to see so many employees and volunteers help make this event in patients’ lives a little happier.

What special skills do you share in your role?
I use my computer skills to log the data of other Hospice volunteers. This requires patience to enter so much information, but it is impressive to see how many people care and donate their time to Hospice.

What are two personal habits that have served you well?
I have always been punctual, and this shows my employers and friends that I care about whatever event or job it may be and that I can be relied on. I keep everything in my planner—from homework to social events. This prevents me from forgetting anything and lets me know every important thing that I have to do in the day. I try to make exercise a regular habit. It is good to stay active, and it helps me feel better physically and mentally. It is good “me” time, keeps me refreshed and also helps me sleep better at night.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy running, biking and rollerblading because it is a good way to stay active and enjoy being outside when the weather is nice. It is always nice to spend time with friends, whether it be watching a movie, playing a board game or just catching up.
