5th Annual Debbie Gabel Memorial Motorcycle Ride, Raffle/Silent Auction and Street Dance on Saturday in Valley City

The 5th annual Debbie Gabel Memorial Motorcycle Ride, Raffle and Street Dance will be held Saturday, July 27, in Valley City.

Rocky Gabel, Valley City, organized the event in honor of his wife, Debbie Gabel, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2009. Last year, approximately 200 people participated in the motorcycle ride.  Net proceeds of the events benefit Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Motorcycle ride:
– Begins at 9 a.m. and ends at approximately 5:30 p.m. (starts and ends at Veterans Memorial Park parking lot)
– Blessing at 11:50 a.m.; ride begins at noon
– Cost to participate is $20 per vehicle; breakfast and supper provided as part of fee

Raffle and silent auction:
– Takes place at Valley City VFW
– Raffle tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance or at the event until 11:45 p.m. Prizes include: 2013 Polaris Ranger (sponsored, in part by, Bayshore City Side); Browning shot gun from 20/20 Auto; $500 cash from Thundering Saints; $350 gift certificate from Appliance City; $300 beef bundle from Valley Meat; and $300 gas card from Dakota Plains Cooperative.

Street dance:
– 9 p.m. on Main Street (between Central Avenue and 2nd Avenue East); music by the Michael D Band

Supper:
– Free for riders; $10 for the public

Hospice of the Red River Valley Employees Earn National Hospice Certification

Amanda Steiner, RN, CHPN, and Colette Wagner, RN, CHPN, have earned the Hospice and Palliative Nurse Certification.

The purpose of certification is to promote delivery of comprehensive palliative nursing care through the certification of qualified hospice and palliative professionals. Certification in hospice and palliative care is highly valued and provides formal recognition of hospice and palliative nursing or administration knowledge.

Fill Up for Hospice at the Lake Park Community Co-op C-Store

Cenex Community Co-opThe staff at the Lake Park Community Co-op C-Store are all smiles about their summer fill up fundraiser for Hospice of the Red River Valley (HRRV). Donations made to HRRV by Co-op members during the summer months will be matched up to $2,500 by the Co-op. Sheri Kaiser, Lake Park C-Store manager, explains why they decided to direct support to Hospice. “Hospice of the Red River Valley helped my husband, Jerry, and our family so much in May of 2003. Jerry was able to be at home throughout his sickness because of their help and support. We know and saw first-hand the dedication and support they provide at the end of life to the patient and the family.”

Gilman Beck, HRRV Volunteer, Receives Volunteer Award

Gilman BeckThe Dakota Conference on Rural and Public Health recently selected Gilman Beck as the recipient of the Outstanding Rural Health Volunteer Award. This award is presented to a health care volunteer who has demonstrated success in the delivery of health services. Beck has been a volunteer with Hospice of the Red River Valley for 12 years and lives in Northwood, N.D. The award was presented to Beck at an awards banquet on June 6 in Mandan, N.D.

Detroit Lakes Eagles Club Donates $5,000 to Hospice RRV

6.27.13 Joy Crouch and Bob LeeBob Lee, Junior Past State President of the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Eagles, presented a check for $5,000 to Joy Crouch with Hospice of the Red River Valley. This contribution was made possible by Detroit Lakes Aerie #2342 and was presented at the 110th Annual Minnesota State Convention held June 20 in Bemidji, Minn.

The gift will have a significant impact on hospice care in the area. “Our thanks to Bob and the Eagles for their deep commitment to ensuring hospice care continues long into the future,” Crouch said. The donation will be used to provide compassionate end-of-life care to those in Detroit Lakes and surrounding communities.
